Yard Lighting
Yard lighting is an often overlooked feature for one’s back yard. It’s truly a great addition as it allows you to continue to enjoy your backyard after dusk. I know personally when barbecuing, it is really tough to know when things are done cooking without adequate lighting. The simple addition of Yard lighting has allowed me to continue this activity without concern of nightfall.
Proper Yard lighting also can accentuate your backyard. With strategic placement, you can place your lighting for maximum usage while not lighting up your backyard like a stadium. I really need idea when it comes to Yard lighting is to build two different types. First is for bright white lighting that permit you to complete tasks without shadows. The second type of yard lighting will be more subtle. It’s sole function will be to provide accent lighting for you and your guests.
By using the second type of lighting that is more subtle, it will also have the wonderful effect of reducing the number of bugs that would normally be attracted by brighter lighting. You can choose warmer colors such as yellows or oranges to create this effect. I’ve even seen one individual use subtle blue lighting. I’m not sure I completely like that but it was an interesting effect.
Another neat idea is to use lighting of multiple colors to create more of an artistic effect. It must be done properly, but when it is done right, it can be quite dramatic!
Another great use of yard lighting, is to put focused security lighting around the perimeter of your yard. The simple addition is a great burglar deterrent. Also placed strategically, it can provide lighting for sidewalks at the perimeter of your yard.
Please make sure that you consult with your local electrician if you’ll be using high-voltage lighting. You’ll need to ensure that your proper grounding in place to avoid electrocution. This is not a bad idea even if you decide to use low-voltage lighting. You’ll easily be able to compensate for the cost of electrician by avoiding repair and replacement costs through faulty installation.
Yard lighting is a great addition that can really really increase the use of your backyard. Consider it when you attack your next landscaping project.
